The Presidency of Reagan marked the beginning of the decline of the experiment begun by our founding Fathers. Their vision of America was 180 degrees from the current state of the State. I don't know how many of you read the various right-wing political blogs on Blogstream, most of which have blocked me from commenting, but there is one marked similarity in all of them. They all, without fail, blame the Liberals for all the woes in the Republic. Liberal has become a dirty word as a result of the sustained blather from talk radio which, for the most part, is total right-wing propaganda. In truth, America was founded on Liberal ideas. The concerns for the common man, for personal freedom, for security and protection from the terror of Royalist, elitist suppression, freedom from the oppression of religious tyranny. The founders envisioned a nation of informed, involved citizens who would hold their leaders accountable for their actions. How far we have strayed. A dumbed down nation of consumers has replaced an aware society of informed, politically involved patriots. In such an environment, the Republic cannot endure. Liberals are not responsible for the horrors we are now experiencing as a nation. The blame lies squarely on the heads of the Republican party, the fundamentalist christian church, the corporate owned media, and millions of ignorant, incurious consumers who confuse patriotism with nationalism. Millions of consumers who would rather have some twisted pastor tell them that jesus, whatever that is, loves them and that it doesn't matter what happens in this life because the one awaiting them after death is so glorious. Go shopping, our glorious leader tells you. Don't look at what we are doing, know that national security is our only concern and whatever we do is for your safety. And if you buy the jesus myth, how can you resist the king's entreaties to stay the course, not question his motives, remember, I love jesus, he says, he is my favorite philosopher.
On the eve of the Pennsylvania Democratic primary I can only hope that the famous Reagan Democrats will not fall for the same old crap and vote against their best interest. Clinton is status quo. Clinton is as elitist as it gets. If you Reagan Democrats are just southern racists, please don't vote at all. If you would vote for McCain and not Obama, you are not Democrats that I would want in the party. Did you learn nothing from the rape of 30 years. Did the Liberals lose your jobs? Did the Liberals betray you and lead you into endless war? Are you so stupid and small minded to miss an opportunity to reverse the disastrous course we are on? If you are , get the hell out of the Democratic party and be the stupid republicans you have been for 30 years.
We are at a crucial crossroads. Only a Democrat can change the direction of the Republic and restore some semblance of dignity and honor to a devastated nation. If Clinton is not the nominee, and I hope she is not, you Reagan Democrats please stay home if you are unable to rise above your mindless, fearful prejudices. We don't want you. We don't need you. Ribet.....ribet.

Gordon Brown made a point of befriending B.H.O on his recent visit to your country and it seems that most of the gamblers in Australia, are putting their money on B.H.O to be the nominee and in August and the President in Novermber, they can see the writing on the wall, I hope that your voters will see it also.
I am a member of the Obamacycle.com, are you? As you may know I am a open minded Buddhist, and I look for real spirituality, not dogma in todays man made right wing opportunist and fanatical religions, but find very little, its all words, idols, theatre and music etc., they want the status que, not change.
I agree with you that both of the American political Parties seem to want to follow the outdated trend of "Dynasty Politics" One Clinton follows after another, and One Bush after another, much the same as the royals of the past and the dictators of today have done and are still doing.
Senator Barack Obama's political views are about a more Holistic form of governance, accountability, transparency and decentralization in local and national government. I am a firm believer in the the use of the referendum as a control, on the actions of those we elect, just think what could have been done re the Iraq war, and how many lives (it is estimared that the Iraq conflict is costing your taxpayers, $400 million a week, 10 billions a month and 120 billions a year, plus the Afghanistan conflict) and dollars could have been saved with the use of a referendum. More Later. Sincerely Mike. Tenerife
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. It is always a pleasure to hear your political views. Too many Americans merely have a knee jerk reaction to events and media framing with no real understanding of the consequences of their vote. With the addition of so many young people to the voters list there may be a genuine opprotunity for significant change in a country suffocating under the weight of its own indolence.
"The founders envisioned a nation of informed, involved citizens who would hold their leaders accountable for their actions."
Just think of how disappointed they would be with our current generation of Americans.
ENJOYED your post, as always. I guess to MY simpleton way of thinking, my friend, I find that LIBERAL & CONSERVATIVE is NEITHER necessarily a BAD or a GOOD word in and of itself.
I find that BOTH words CAN and ARE labeled as SUCH.
To ME, I AGREE with your above LIBERAL descriptions. MANY GOOD things were indeed LIBERAL. Unheard of things NO other country had EVER done before America was born.
I also think, that WE THE PEOPLE, must fight and do our DUTY as CITIZENS to CONSERVE the GOOD things within OUR America and the make things EVEN BETTER as we progress along this American Journey.
I keep saying to all those who give me my freedoms to say such (and I give same said considerations back in return to ALL), that GENIUS and STUPIDITY has NO monopoly on LIBERALISM OR CONSERVATISM.
It has been this dumb, old geezer's life perspectives that BOTH of the above forementioned have done BOTH BRILLIANT and NOT SO BRILLIANT things along the proverbial historical journey thus far.
Now, my friend ....
SPRING is FINALLY getting to MICHIGAN .... I MOWED the yard for the FIRST time here last week. It was 70+ TEN straight days here in April. A RECORD for US! Even made '80' one day.
Then, REALITY set in. Like when TallPockets REALIZED that HE and MISS HALLE BERRY had NO real chance. SIGH. BACK to the 40's and 50's and 30's at NIGHT. SMILE.
Finally .... I LIKED the pic of the NEW INDIANA BASKETBALL head coach! Did a GOOD job at MARQUETTE! He also married JIM HARBAUGH's SISTER. WINK.
GO I.U.!
My BEST to you and yours, always, Toadie .... Keep on keepin' on, my friend!
TallPockets.
So good to hear from you. You have been missed and we are glad you are back.
I agree, there is good and bad on both or all sides of the aisle. And as Shakespeare said, to paraphrase, what's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. We can compromise on many issues but rights and freedoms are not negotiable and whosoever would preserve them has my vote.
Yea for the Hoosiers snagging such a prize. He has done great things and I expect he will restore Hoosierdom to greatness. Rah, Rah, sisboombah!!! Boy, does that date me!!!
So glad Spring has sprung for you. We are already in the 90's...in essence, summer, as you know it is here. But the nights are still pleasant. I live in the high Sonoran desert and we get low 50's for our low. I must brag, my garden is spectacular. I just got a digital camera and I will email a pic or two.
Stay well, bud, and best wishes to you and your tribe. Toadie
TOADIE: HELLO, again. In the words of song from Mr. Smokey Robinson, "I SECOND THAT EMOTION". WINK.
My BEST to you and yours ....
May your 'green' thumb GLOW brightly in ALL your garden!!
TallPockets.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope all is well with you. My thumb is pulsing green light. I'm looking forward to a hard fought battle between Obama and McSame. I trust the American people will rise above our petty prejudices and do the right thing. We must find our community once again. Cheers, Toadie.
Sure HOPE they get their INTEGRITY AND a GOOD I.U. basketball team back! SIGH.
Our weather has been COOL. The farmers are only now starting to PLANT and really get into the fields.
It's been in the low 60's again this week for HIGHS and down near 35 at nights.
Supposed to be up to 70 by next Memorial Day weekend?
Hope you and yours and your 'garden' are doin' WELL!
My BEST,
TallPockets.
Thanks for the comment. It would appear that conservatives get their marching orders from a secret undisclosed location and babble the propaganda in unison. They don't need brains . They move as one giant amoeba, slogging and squishing their way across the political landscape spreading their slime and disgust in hopes that some of the crap will stick. Pitiful!!!
