Get you hip boots and umbrellas out, America, here comes the shit-slinging republican far right. Now that most conservatives realize they have no winners in this horse race their only recourse is to take to the low road, a path they know so well having paved and repaved it for decades.
The appeals to the ignorant among us, the GOP base, are coming at us at an alarming rate and intensity, destined to increase exponentially should Obama win the nomination. The noise machine was quick to pounce on Michelle Obama's statement concerning her pride in America. For the record, she daid...
"For the first time in my adult life I am really proud of my country because I feel like hope is making a comeback...not just because Barrack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."

She did not say she was never proud of America, she simply stated she was really proud, a matter of quantity, not quality. The next morning we get Cindy McCain's deliberate distortion of Michelle's statement, no doubt prompted by her hubby's handlers since Cindy has never been known for her opinions on anything. The flap was augmented and spun to distraction by the frothing attack dogs of conservative talk radio, those darlings of the Rovian kennels who take their marching orders from the White House.
Last Friday on the Bill Maher Show we were assaulted by Jack Kingston, a true son of the south, who accused Obama of being un-American because he didn't put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem. The idiot should have known that one places one's hand over one's heart when reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. He then observes that Obama doesn't wear a "made in China" American flag lapel pin, as if adorning the body with our national symbol automatically imbues one with true patriotism like those magnetic ribbons which displayers claim demonstrates their palpable support for our troops fighting and dying in an unjust and illegal war.
A few days later the Kingston bumbles his way onto the Dan Abrams show to make the same lame claims. As Abrams points out that Kingston is not wearing a pin, the segment evolves into a comedy skit much to the chagrin of the petty plowboy who, had he any sense of propriety should have been embarrassed. He merely whines that he doesn't see the connection between his attack on Obama and his failure to be sporting the much ballyhooed lapel pin. I can only hope that he is not the best Georgia has to offer.
Since the far-right bigots know better than to attack Obama for being black or even "halfrican", they find new fodder by invoking Obama's middle name...Hussein, Hussein, Hussein!! His name is Hussein and his last name rhymes with Osama!! See, America, he's a Muslim plant, an Al-Quaeda operative lying in wait to subdue us.
Sadly, those who buy into this crap have already been subdued by their own ignorance and fear, a fear hand fed them by the Fascist Bushies who have learned from history that fear is the most effective method of influencing and controlling the ill-informed.
Obama is a Christian and anyone who would fear him because of his name is hopelessly mired in the 13th Century.
This won't work this time, Rove, even though you have deceptively urged your minions to refrain from attacking Obama on race or religion for fear of being seen as the racists and bigots you really are.
We are in an electric, high-stakes campaign for the soul and future of the Republic. We will have a Democratic President, presumably Obama, in November. Let us hope that voter fraud will be minimalized and that we will not suffer another "attack" in the form of an October surprise when Bush and Cheney realize their regime is over and that the possibility of accountability will find them in the witness stand and eventually in prison for their numerous crimes.
Only though vigilance and a growing sense of political awareness will we be able to stave off further assaults on our freedoms and the specter of martial law promised us by a cowardly, would be dictator.
Ribet...ribet.

Hello Toadie,
Congratulations on the wording of your blog. It was the first on my list of e-mails this morning, and it was my wake up call. There are still so many unaware people not only in the USA, but worldwide, who still believe in and support a dead right and left brain political philosophy. Did you mention the new Presidential hopeful, who thinks that he can pull off the same trick twice in this decade, with help of a new side kick, where is their political funding coming from? I have been delayed in putting my mind into to my next blog, until after the 4th. March, because of hospital visits, and I'm waiting for the election results, I hope that Barack H. Obama wins on all counts and that we start to see a more Holistic accountable, accessible, transparent, decontrolled, open minded and conspiracy free, form of Governance, without fear, war and world conflict, creating peace and unity, for the first time in thousands of years. Please leave a comment on my 2 blogs. Best Regards and keep up the good work. Mike

Dear Mike,
Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. It often seems as if those outside our borders are more attentive to the political debate raging in the nation than are our own citizens.
Even though McCain does not have the support of most Conservatives, he will manage to find the funding for his campaign from an extremely wealthy contingency who feel threatened by the very thought of social reform. Since the Reagan years, wealth and the power than attends it, have steadily flowed into the coffers a very few who are loathe to share. Concentration of wealth joined with a not too subtle push by the Republican party to destroy the middle class has led to an ever widening disparity among us creating a caste system in which the wealthy will eventually be able to control all aspects of our lives. Without the middle class there is no dissent. Without dissent there will be no social justice, a concept held in low regard by Conservatives who either had no soul to begin with or lost it in the pursuit of power.
Let us hope that Obama prevails and brings with him a new Congress freed from the control of lobbyists who do the dirty work for the powerful corporations that are usurping all resources, eliminating any possibility of upward mobility for the average citizen. This is not the America our Founders envisioned, rather a return to the very Royalist social configuration our forefathers fought against and sacrificed their lives and fortunes to defeat.

Toadie:

Well over 200 years ago, Samuel Johnson said, "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." And he was so right. The false patriotism of these scoundrels infuriates me because so many people are taken in by it. The flags they wave and the lapel pins they wear are made in China, where so many American jobs today are being outsourced.

Whit,
Johnson's England was inundated with scoundrels since the Empire was in full bloom and those who plundered for their own benefit held all the power positions much like the America of today. The irony of American flags made in China is not wasted on the enlightened. The selfish and manipulative will always be with us but must we allow them to hold the reins of governance?

Just came across your blog and think it's great, I'll be keeping an eye on it during the elections and like you, i am hoping that Obama can take on McCain and rid this country of the 'religious right', I'm tired of being called 'un-American' for not supporting Mr.Bush.

BMCohen,
Thanks for dropping by. We are strong in numbers and growing more vocal as we realize that the threat to our collective freedom has been and is continually being eroded by this criminal regime that found a moment in time, a vulnerability in our confidence as a people to play upon our fears. They have taken the the very core of our Republic and offered it up to the most corrupt and selfish among us and in the name of national security, usurped those precious freedoms secured for us by the blood of true Patriots who understood the horror that attends renegade power. There is nothing more heinous than the marriage of religion and state. We, the people, must shoulder much of the blame because of our indolence. The unthinkable could happen in America and has happened because we have relied too long on the belief that freedom once purchased is a freedom eternal. Never trust your leaders. Always question authority and hold those in power accountable for every action, however seemingly inconsequential.
